"Meet our DJs" - NEXUM

Welcome Craig Manville AKA NEXUM. Craig has been with 4 Beat from the very start and we are delighted to have him on board!

Q: Hi Craig, tell us a little bit about your self. How did you get into DJing or Production?

The first memory I have of music is Trance. I’ve always been into it, ever since I was a kid. When I was growing up everyone I knew started getting into Rap music, but for me Trance music had a special place in my heart. It’s something I always wanted to do, something I always DREAMED of doing. Friends would always say “Why didn’t you become a Trance DJ?” and I always wondered WHY myself. After lockdown I decided to just do it. I got myself some kit and dove right in, practicing in-between work hours and social life. The support and feedback I’ve had both from the 4Beat community and online from people listening to my shows has been incredible. I’ve been booked for gigs as far as Norwich this year and I’m so excited about my future in the Trance scene!

Q: Tell us your earliest memories of clubbing. When did you first hear Electronic music being played?

The best memory I have is in Amnesia, listening to Ferry Corsten for the first time. Amnesia for me will always be the Mecca of Trance. From the Kevin and Perry era, it was one of the first lads holidays we went on. Getting your tickets at the waterfront, boarding the busy at Bar M on the beach, piling into amnesia and dancing until sunrise. That time was just something else. I’m honoured to have been able to experience trance back then having been so interested in it growing up.

Q: What is your Dream club to play at?

For nostalgia reasons I’d have to say Amnesia. For an event though, my dream is to play LUMINOSITY in Amsterdam. It’s got to be the best gathering of Trance pioneers anywhere in the world.

Q: Describe your style of music you play or produce?

Uplifting and Euphoric Trance. Trance music has gifted me so many things through life. Memories. Holidays. Gatherings. But one thing I can’t thank it for is the FEEL FACTOR it allows me to have. I’m not a very emotional person, but I’ll always be there for people when they need me. Sometimes the world can get lonely when you’re the one people turn to all the time for answers. For me Trance music makes me experience the emotions that I probably wouldn’t speak to others about. Trance music makes me FEEL things that I can’t or don’t want to express on the outside. It makes me think of times gone, of people passed and it makes me smile on the inside like I can’t explain. This is what I try to bring to every one of my shows. That feeling of Pure Euphoria that just allows you to escape and feel in the most spiritual form.

Q: Which artists/DJs inspire you?

There’s a few, from Factor B to and Chicane. I’d have to say though, Ferry’s Aliases of Gouryella and System F just do it for me

Q: Tell us about your music. What have been your most successful releases? Have you had records signed and who to?

I’m going into production this year hopefully. I’m not wanting to rush the process as I believe in getting in lane and flowing with what the universe is offering to you. I’ve been waking up with tunes playing over in my head, so I record them into my phone upon waking and will one day be putting them on the waves for the world to hear. Watch this space ;)

Q: Tell us about your 4 Beat Radio Show, what is your show called, when can we listen to you? How did you get involved?

I knew Jon Towell from CrossFit and instantly clicked with him and his Missus Jen. We would talk about trance music all the time and it was actually Jon who helped me sort my kit by advising me on what I needed. The support form him and the 4Beat team has been amazing. They offered me a weekly slot, but I didn’t feel like I deserved it that early on and wanted to earn it by building a following and getting myself out there more first. I deliver those Pure Uplifting Euphoric sounds every other week at 9pm on my show Trancescend.

Q: Tell us 3 things we don't know about you?

1. Outside of my DJing I work full time as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. 2. I’ve had one of my Psychedelic experiences with Ayahuasca published in a book. 3. Not a fan of Open Waters

Q: Is there anything we can do to improve the station?

1. Community interaction like competitions, requests, tune of the week etc. Basically just to build a community feel to the app. 2. Still early days, but thinking maybe hook up with other events that are already established and see if we can help them with artist support for their events ie 4Beat stage etc. Not sure the ins n outs, just thinking of ways to expand reach.

Craig - thanks for your time, and we love you being part of the team!

Kenny, Dave and Jon
